The first class begins on July 12, 2022 and the remaining classes will be held Tuesday August 9, Tuesday September 13 and Tuesday October 11, 2022. The classes will be conducted in English.
The benefits of parenting classes are many and varied. Parents are not the only beneficiaries, as improved parenting skills have a lasting impact on the children they are raising. Divorced and married parents alike reap such benefits of parenting classes as: Learning about basic child development so they know what to expect at each stage in a child’s life, Learning age-appropriate discipline, and how it is more effective than anger-driven punishment, Learning to recognize their strengths as parents, and how to put those strengths to good use, Learning how to work together as parents to raise their children, even if they are no longer in a relationship, Learning how to deal with major problems that may arise and Learning how to deal with a blended family. The primary goals of parenting classes include improving relationships between parents and their children, and teaching parents how to deal with the daily responsibilities of maintaining a home and family, in positive ways.
Rational emotive behavior therapy (REBT) is a type of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) developed by psychologist Albert Ellis. REBT is an action-oriented approach that’s focused on helping people deal with irrational beliefs and learn how to manage their emotions, thoughts, and behaviors in a healthier, more realistic way. When people hold irrational beliefs about themselves or the world, problems can result. The goal of REBT is to help people recognize and alter those beliefs and negative thinking patterns in order to overcome psychological problems and mental distress. According to REBT, our cognition, emotions, and behavior are connected. In order to understand the impact of events and situations that people encounter throughout life, it’s essential to look at the beliefs people hold about these experiences and the emotions that arise as a result of those beliefs.
The Angels of Love Parenting Classes Program is an 8 hour curriculum which consists of four classes that are held one time per month for 2 hours per session.
The Angels of Love Advocacy Project’s mission is to end dating and domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking in the Rio Grande Valley. The Angels of Love Advocacy Project empowers survivors through free legal services and access to the justice system, and advances prevention through community outreach and education.
The “Power of Purse-Her-Verence” Survivor Celebration Luncheon is a signature event presented by
Angels of Love to celebrate and empower survivors of domestic violence.
Angels of Love is a non-profit organization which provides free services to victims of domestic and dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking across Hidalgo County. Angels of Love was awarded a grant from the Federal government which is administered through the Governor’s Office from State of Texas. Angels of
Love created the Angels of Love Advocacy Project which provides free legal services (including protective
orders and simple divorces) and advocacy services to the victims of domestic violence through out Hidalgo
County. Angels of Love’s vision is to extend itself throughout the Rio Grande Valley with not only providing
legal services but also to open an emergency shelter for abused women and children in the Rio Grande Valley.
The shelter would include counseling, life skills transition training and other related programs that would provide the resources in order to help individuals not only survive but to thrive in their community as a contributing citizen.
This Survivor Celebration Luncheon will serve as a platform for those individuals who are former victims of domestic violence and who are now thriving in their community sharing their stories to encourage others to take the first step towards a new path.
Your partnership in becoming a sponsor or giving an in-kind donation for this event will help us catapult the organization to helping more victims of domestic and dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking, Human Trafficking, Child Abuse prevention and Suicide Awareness.
When: Saturday, August 13, 2022; 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
Where: Radisson Hotel; 2721 South 10th Street, McAllen, Texas
Why: Family violence continues to be a major problem in Texas. Nearly 250,000 Texans were beaten by
their intimate partners in 2021. 74% of all Texans either know someone who has been a victim of domestic violence or have been victims themselves. It is estimated the U.S. economy loses $8.3 billion annually due to domestic violence.
Statistics tell us the only human service directly correlated with a decrease in domestic violence is access to
legal solutions.
The “Power of Purse-Her-Verence” Survivor Celebration Luncheon serves as a fundraiser for Angels of
Love, a non-profit organization that works hand-in-hand with local law enforcement, prosecution, child protective services, medical providers, mental health providers, and victim advocacy professionals in Hidalgo County to protect and serve victims of domestic violence and sexual abuse.
There are a limited number of tickets available for the event via eventbrite, registration and pre-sale tickets are
recommended.
For more information or to make reservations, contact the Gala chairperson, Brenda Greagrey at 956-343-4706.

The Angels of Love “Girl Power” Program teaches tween girls, that they are valuable and have a voice that can empower them, by giving them information and tools to use. Girl Power encourages young girls to build confidence, competence and pride within themselves.
Tween Girls thrive when they receive messages of aspiration rather than limitation; when they have access to positive role models; and when they receive the resources necessary to overcome challenges.
With the right people, environment, and programming, teen girls are empowered to set high expectations and succeed. Tween Girls build confidence and embrace positive decision-making, take charge of their health and well-being, and achieve academic, personal, and career goals. As a result, they will provide themselves and their families with economic opportunity.
When tween girls feel confident about their bodies, their beauty, their uniqueness, their intelligence, and their worthiness; they will go into the world and fully express themselves to the highest potential.
